Guest Blog and Giveaway with Mysti Parker

An Evening with the Cast of Serenya’s Song, #1: Serenya
Setting: The Wasted Witch

Come in and have a seat. Could I get you a mug of our famous Barnaby’s Ale? Never heard of it, huh? Take a sip, and I bet you’ll want a refill!

Told you.

Dad’s usually the one greeting the customers. I’m more at home over there behind my piano. If you stay long enough, you can hear me play.

I’d take my gloves off, but it’s chilly in here and…who’s my dad? You haven’t heard of him, either? He’s Douglas Barnaby, a human like you, though a bit older and plumper.

Don’t worry; he’s back in the storage room now, so I can talk about him. See, until I was twenty-one years old, he was the only man in my life. Things were so simple back then, even though I knew he wasn’t my real father, and even though children tormented me about my, um, birth defect.

Yes, I know that doesn’t sound very simple, but Dad and I were really happy, just the two of us. We laughed a lot. Still do. I’ve helped him here ever since I could carry a tray. There’s never a dull moment. Sure, people gossip about me. They speculate about my birth parents. Everyone knows my mother was a wood elf, but no one, not even Dad, knows who my father is. Their stares make my skin crawl.

I guess you’re wondering why I stay here in Summerwind with all the gossipmongers lurking in plain sight. Well, in case you hadn’t noticed, the countryside is gorgeous. So many places I can set up my easel and try to recreate the landscape. Oh, the townspeople have their faults, of course, but underneath, they’re decent people. Most of them.

See that man over there at the corner table? Yes, the six-foot-four inch, sharply-dressed human. He’s the Earl of Summerwind, Sebastian Crowe. You guessed it. He’s my husband. Which makes me Lady Crowe.

And now you’re wondering why a titled woman spends her nights working in a tavern. Sebastian doesn’t understand it, either. How can I explain that this place, where Dad and I spent so many happy years, is more like home than Crowe Manor?

I really wanted Sebastian’s estate to feel like home. I really wanted him when he walked into the bar six years ago. Before long, he asked for my hand in exchange for paying off some of Dad’s debts. I know Dad didn’t want to agree, but I was so in love with him. We were quite happy together for a couple of years, but I’ve never been able to give him an heir. And now…when he drinks too much, he’s, um, difficult to deal with.

But, there are bigger problems at my doorstep, like that incredibly handsome wood elf that just walked in.

Let’s hope Sebastian didn’t see me staring. Oh, here’s Dad. That’s my cue to play. Enjoy your ale.

Dancing Naked in Dixie Excerpt and Giveaway

DNID - EXCERPT # 2

“But, I have plans. Every night next week. Tickets to the Met, a fundraiser, a gallery opening, and I have book club on Monday.” I don’t mention the Filene’s trip I’d planned. Or the romantic date I’ve been promising Andrew, my neglected boyfriend of four years.
David waves a hand to dismiss it all. “Marietta can handle the magazine-related responsibilities.” From the top drawer of his desk he produces an airline ticket and a manila folder with my name on it. He sets them on the edge of his desk. Something I can’t decipher plays on his lips.
I keep my voice even. “What about Bali?” I had planned to leave for the South Pacific a week from Friday. “It’s on my calendar. It’s been on there…”
David shakes his head. “Not anymore.”
The words wound me like a thousand bee stings.
“Alabama,” David repeats.
My face grows hot. He’s plucked me off a plum assignment without a thought to my ability and my schedule. My new boss is sending me to God knows where and he looks perfectly content.
“If that’s my next assignment,” I sputter, “I’d rather…I’d rather dance naked!”
The announcement comes out much louder than I intend and reverberates through the room. Dolores probably has her ear pressed to the door, but the phrase bounces off my boss like a cotton ball.
David smothers a chuckle. “Suit yourself.”

Just One Drop Tour Stop and Giveaway

Excerpt chapter 6

"What are you grinning about?" Decebel growled, knowing he wasn't going to like the answer.

"I think it's time we break up their girls' night out. Preferably before Jen falls off the bar," Fane told him. Though he tried, he couldn't hide the teasing laughter in his eyes as he watched his words penetrate Decebel's mind.

"She's in a bar?"

"Oh, she'll do you one better than that, Beta." Fane chuckled. "She's on a bar. As in dancing on a bar. The patrons are quite taken with her."

Decebel was out of his seat and ripping the door open before Fane could finish his sentence.

"Did you have taunt him?" Vasile scolded.

Fane shrugged. "Seeing the steely, calm Beta all riled is too much to pass up, Alpha."

Vasile tried to hide his smile as he shook his head at his only son. "Fine, but hurry up and go with him or he'll tear the damn bar apart, and I don't have the time or energy to deal with that mess."

"As you say." Fane winked at his father.

"Luna, I'm giving you fair warning. Your little adventure has been found out by the subject of your taunting. Do you think it wise, my love, to bait a dominant male?"

Fane could feel her surprise as she heard his voice in her mind. He smiled. He loved surprising her – it was a nice change of pace since he was usually the one being surprised.

"Crap. Is he on his way here?" Fane heard the anxiety in her voice.

"Hell is on his heels, love."

"You are enjoying this entirely too much, White Fang."

"Aw. Now, Jacquelyn, that is no way to speak to your mate." Fane couldn't cover his laughter.

"Just remember, wolf-man, I will follow through with my threat to have that dog house built for you. Now how long?"

"You wound me with your words, Luna."

"Fane, I'm not playing with you. How long till the brooding fur ball arrives?"
Fane had neglected to tell Jacquelyn that he and Decebel had been driving the whole time they'd been conversing. The bar was only five minutes from the mansion. He smiled to himself as he and Decebel climbed out of the Hummer.

Fane pulled open the door to the bar. He took in the scene and nearly lost his composure at the sight.

"You're looking stunning, Luna, if not a little under-clothed." Fane watched as Jacquelyn's eyes, big as saucers, met his across the bar. He grinned wickedly, raising his eyebrows as he whispered in her mind.

"Gotchya."

Jen's letter from Decebel

This is a letter that Decebel wrote to Jen the night they decided to see where their relationship and the feelings they have will go. It's the same night he tells her his wolf has claimed her.

My love,

I know I could have probably been a little more suave about how I announced my intentions towards you. Words have never been my forte'. However, I'm going to attempt as best I can to tell you what you, in the short time I've known you, have come to mean to me. No laughing allowed.
The first moment I realized that you were going to be important to me was when I saw your still form lying on the side of the road next to the burning vehicle. You weren't moving. In that moment I don't think I had ever felt such fear. I knew then you mattered. I wasn't exactly sure in what way, or capacity, but I knew you mattered to me.
During your time in the hospital my wolf grew more and more attached to you and so did I. Every day I looked forward to seeing you. I even looked forward to hearing whatever smart remark you would throw my way. When I was with you it was so hard not to just stare. I tried to memorize your face, your expressions, the sound of your voice, your scent so that I could recall them when we were apart.
When I found out that you were a potential mate to my kind two things happened. The first my wolf howled in triumph, he was convinced that you were ours. The second was complete and utter fear. As I've told you I know what it is to lose someone that I love, to be unable to protect someone who relies on you, to be completely helpless in the outcome of their fate. I ran from you, from us. That is why I was gone for those months.
Now, here around all these others, the idea of losing you is unacceptable to me and unbearable. There is something in me that just clicks into place when you are around. You bring my wolf peace and you fill my darkness with light.
Tonight I told you that I wanted you Jennifer. The real meaning behind those words was I love you.
I love you. You are mine and I am yours. I will always protect you, care for you and provide for you. There is nothing or no one who will keep you from me.
Thank you baby, for being my light. For bringing me hope and accepting me as I am.

Forever yours,
Decebel

Fate's Design Excerpt and Giveaway

Excerpt

I began to write in my newly bought journal when I felt eyes staring at me. I looked over at Morgan; she was studying the People magazine as if it was a schoolbook! My eyes darted around the busy airport when they met his. The tall grey haired man looked more obvious than inconspicuous. I mean who dresses in a trench coat in the summertime. He dropped his mysterious eyes from mine back to the newspaper that cover the rest of his face. I now watched his every move. He slowly eased away from the wall that supported him and walked with a group of people exiting the plane. My stalker shuffled into the crowed and I lost him. I stood up quickly alerting Morgan to stand next to me.

"What, what's wrong?" She asked startled by my movement. I needed to quickly come up with a lie so she wouldn't panic.

"I just thought I saw a celebrity." I shrugged knowing I wouldn't care if I did.
"REALLY? Who" She shrieked.

"It was no one." I sat down and grabbed my purse. I pretended to look for something as Morgan peered around the airport. She sat eventually and continued with the magazine. Meanwhile, I kept lookout for the creep in the overcoat. I wonder if that was the creep that I had seen outside our apartment a few times.

Our plane boarded shortly after me and mister looky loo exchanged glances, and I didn't see him get on because we hustled on quickly. I relaxed after we took off glad to leave that lurker in Germany.

Mostly of her books are Paranormal Romance with suspense and a little humor, but she’s not limiting herself to just that. All of the stories emanate from her wild imagination and the fact that she is a hopeless romantic.
