Now on Tour Hunters by Gregory Marshall Smith + Giveaway

Hunters

The day we’ve all been waiting for is finally here! Today, we kick off Hunters blog tour, with the help of Fangtastic Books, Bewitching Book Tours and the incredible Roxanne Rhoads.

Get ready for some old school vampire hunting, just like they did it back in the old days, but with a fresh and modern twist.

If you’re a fan of vampire tales the way they used to be, like with Bram Stoker’s Dracula or all of those classic Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee films for Hammer Studios or even Wesley Snipes’ Blade trilogy, you’ll like Hunters.

Having seen the fresh new idea of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga explode into a virtual market of similar themes including True Blood, Vampire Diaries and Vampire Academy, I wanted to make sure traditional vampire tales did not get shoved aside. I also did not want the usual classic tale of a loner fighting impossible odds, so I created a brave band of humans who take on a vampire menace that threatens to corrupt the very fabric of society.

It’s an age-old battle between good and evil. I didn’t want the world to seem hopeless as I was reminded of the old maxim -- "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

We can see far too many good people doing nothing. These Hunters decide to do something.

I wanted to make them very human, not just impersonal machines. I’m sure we’ve all worked with people who are arrogant, conceited, carrying a grudge, bearing a big chip on their shoulders or just plain jerks. But, they put aside differences when it counts and they get the job done.

Hopefully, you all will have fun following the trials and tribulations of the devoted Jesus and Dolores Montoya; the noble mercenary Marcus Van Niekerk; the well-meaning but compromised Aurelia Hernandez; the exotic vampire enforcer/swordswoman Lin Tang, and the mysterious Cantrell Ryker, whose instability is almost as legendary as his reputation.

I want to thank you all for kindly dropping in to join me on this, my first-ever tour! Let the good times begin!

Excerpt #1

Lin reached back and whipped out her other sword. She glared at Ryker with an animalistic intensity that seemed completely out of character to her normal demeanor. If Ryker saw it, he didn’t let on that it affected him in any way.

“Let me tell you where you are going,” she snarled. “To the ninth circle of hell.”

Lin lifted her swords and inched closer to Ryker. He responded by snapping his left arm downward. Almost on cue, a long piece of cylindrical, but solid metal slid down into his gloved hand. He gripped the rod, snaking his fingers through the handle guard that enclosed the rubber grips at the end of it.

“You were hiding from me,” Lin stated. “You deprived me of revenge for my sensei, Lo Chang, for three years. I will make you wish you stayed dead.”

With his right hand, Ryker reached behind his back, going up under his heavy jacket and pulled out a long, rather wicked-looking knife. It was curved and gleamed in the light, from tip to the hand grip. The thing was slightly less than half the length of Lin’s blades, making both Diane’s and Kelly’s jaws drop. Even Lin had to take a second look at a blade that looked solid enough to parry her own.

“Okay, Lin,” Ryker stated, simply. “Only one of us is walking out of here. And it’s not going to be you.”

“You really think you can take me, Ryker?” she asked, in a voice that dripped with pure venom. “Fat chance.”

“You, of all people, should know not to underestimate an opponent, Lin,” Ryker countered. “I might not be as strong as Miss Morales. Or, as experienced in combat as Mr. Van Niekerk. Or, as tough as Mr. Wesley. But, I survived for three years in hiding, taking out every vampire whose path I crossed. Single-handed.”

“Enough!” Lin screamed. “It’s time to die!”

“Well, we should all have a dream.”

Hunters
By Gregory Marshall Smith

For centuries, vampires have owned the night. And in Fort Worth, Texas, master vampire, Louis Riordan, aims to keep it that way. With the help of Lin Tang, his lethal enforcer, he will unite sixteen of the continent’s top master vampires into the most powerful undead alliance the world has ever seen.

Rumors abound that Lin Tang’s most hated enemy, Cantrell Ryker, has returned from the grave and there are hunters in town, ready to take back the twilight. Vastly outnumbered and outgunned, with dissension in the ranks and a traitor in their midst, these hunters fight for humanity side by side. They now have a weapon that could turn the tide of the age-old war between man and vampire once and for all.

Caution: Book contains scenes of violence, mild sex and a few expletives.
